December Newsletter 2021
Dear Axtell Community School members,
We are moving into the final month of the 1st semester. This is an important time for your students to make sure they finish the semester strong. Before we know it, Christmas break will be here and they will have time to enjoy with you and any other family. We hope everyone has a great break.
I just want to remind everyone of our schedule on December 20th & 21st due to students taking final exams. On December 20th & 21st we will be having a 10:00AM starts for all K-12 students. On these days there will be no preschool. Christmas break runs from December 22nd through January 5th. On Thursday, January 6th all students are back in session.
Upcoming Events at ACS:
· Christmas concerts will be held for the PK-6 on November 30th @ 6:30 pm. The 7-12 concert will be on Monday, December 13th @ 7:00pm. These will be on Striv.
· Map testing will be taking place during the month of December for all K-8 students. For students in grades 9-11 they will be in January.
· NSAA moratorium break is from December 22nd through December 26th. No practices or games can be held at this time. Please enjoy your break.
· End of the 1st semester is on December 21st. We will mail report cards in early January.
Good luck to all the One Act team as they compete in district One Act and to the winter activities as they begin.

No School for students in grades K-5 on Monday, december 6th
This will allow teachers in grades K-5 to attend an ELA curriculium meeting.
On behalf of the Veterans, we would like to say a special thank you to the Axtell Community School and students for the Veterans Day program on November 11th. It was very much appreciated.
Drivers education classes 2022
If you are a student between the ages of (14-18) and would be interested in taking Drivers Education Classes in Axtell in the summer of 2022, please call the school office and sign up ASAP. In order to have classes taught in Axtell the minimum enrollment required is 8 students.
national honor society
The Axtell National Honor Society along with the Kearney County Goodfellows is again sponsoring the Toys for Tots drive this Christmas season. Please consider donating a new toy or book that can be wrapped and distributed to needy families in our area. There will be a box near the Christmas tree in the lobby for donations. We will be accepting donations from December 2nd through December 17th. We appreciate your generosity. Your contributions will help make a Merry Christmas for many families and individuals.
Post Prom fundraiser- painted pavers
The Post Prom is doing a Painted Paver Fundraiser.
These pavers are 7 inches tall by 14 inches long.
The are hand painted, (no two exactly alike), and sealed.
Payment required with order.

On November 11th, from 6:00 to 7:30 PM, the Axtell FBLA collected non-perishable food items throughout the community. Teams of 4-5 members went door to door in search of items and raced back to the school to win the competition. Between all 21 members, they collected 917 items to donate to the Wilcox Food Pantry.
The team of Jessica Bertrand, Megan Kindschuh, Taeylor Samuelson, Kassidy Halvorsen, and Lexie Eckhoff won the competition by collecting 290 items.
Later on in the year, the Axtell FBLA will be doing a split the pot at a basketball game to raise funds for the Minden Food Bank, more information to come.

Preschool will begin the concert at 6:30 followed by Kindergarten - 6th grade, then 5th & 6th grade bands
7-12 Grade Winter Concert will be on December 13 at 7:00 pm

- December 9th: FFA Christmas Party at 7pm (JH and HS members) - January 11th: FFA Jacket Ceremony with brief FFA Chapter meeting to follow - January 20th: Conduct of Chapter Meeting and Parliamentary Procedure District Test (virtual) - January 21st: FFA/FFA Alumni and Supports Meal during Wilcox Hildreth Basketball game - January 26th: District LDE's in Aurora (JH and HS members)

CANNED FOOD DRIVE
The Student Council will be collecting canned food items for the Kearney County Goodfellows starting December 6th and ending December 10th. All items can be dropped off in the lobby.
HOLIDAY SPIRIT WEEK
The Student Council will be hosting the Holiday Spirit Week Dec. 13-17th. The dress-up days are as follows:
Monday: PJ Day Tuesday: Burrr It's Cold Out-- Wear scarves, flannel, stocking hats, etc. Wednesday: Dress as your favorite Christmas or winter characters Thursday: Red and Green Explosion- Wear red and green Friday: Ugly Sweater Day
AXTELL COMMUNITY FUND
Need a great stocking stuffer idea??
Please join the Axtell Community Fund for an evening of prime rib and fun as we share our mission and celebrate the people that make Axtell great. Half the proceeds from this event will be donated to the Axtell Fire Department Cadet Program which helps train and prepare the next generation of volunteer firefighters for our community.

Wednesday, December 8th, will be the last AWANA of December.
We will resume AWANA again after Christmas break on January 12th!

Operation Gratitude care package
3rd Grade is going above and beyond to say Thank You to Military & First Responder Heroes. All of these goodies will be sent in Operation Gratitude Care Packages to men and women who continue to bravely serve in their communities and around the world. Thank you 3rd grade families and those who donated from the community to help make our care package a success!
