January Newsletter 2022

Dear Axtell Community School members,

It is our hope that everyone got to enjoy a nice Christmas break. We are fortunate here in Axtell to have such wonderful students, staff, and community involvement. Thank you for everything you do for our school!

We look forward to another great semester here at Axtell Community School. Thank you to our students and staff for a great 1st semester of the 2021-2022 school year. We are fortunate to be back to a much more normal school year compared to the last few.

Upcoming Events at ACS:

· We will mail our report cards around January 13th. Please let us know if you do not receive this.

· The high school students will be taking map tests on Friday, January 21st.

Please follow our social media for updates and our school calendar as things change throughout the activity season. We will keep doing our best to keep everyone updated.

SUMMER HONORS

Summer Honors will be held June 12-24, 2022. Nominations are due by Friday, January 28th. Students in grades 8-12, if you are interested in one of the areas, please see Mrs. Kuehn she will get you nominated. You can be nominated for more than one area. Summer Honors is primarily in Holdrege and organized by Mrs. Jack and ESU11.

These are the classes that we are planning on offering this year. We haven’t secured all of our instructors at this time, so there might be some changes. We will not be offering film this year. We will instead be offering social science/psychology and bringing back medical science.

Agriculture, Art, Computers, Creative Writing, Drama, Engineering, Logic, Math, Medical Science, Social Science (psychology)and 4 interns who do different things to make the program run smoothly.

Just a note...In previous years housing in Holdrege had been offered, but it will not be available again this year.

FFA Apparel
Thank you to everyone who purchased FFA apparel in December. Due to shipping issues we were not able to get the items in before Christmas. Hopefully items will be arriving soon, we will let you know once items arrive and can be picked up from school. Thank you for your support and patience!

Axtell FFA Alumni and Supporters

If you are interested in joining the Axtell FFA Alumni and Supporters please contact Mrs. Grimes or Trish Danburg.

Axtell Youth Wrestling Club

The Axtell Youth Wrestling Club will be starting practice on Monday, January 10th, 2022. Practices will begin at 6:00 on the wrestling deck. Pre K-2nd grade will practice on Mondays. 3rd-8th graders will practice on Tuesdays & Thursdays with their first practice beginning on Tuesday, January 11th, 2022. There will be a $20.00 club fee for Pre K-2nd grade, the fee will be $40 for 3rd-8th grade. Both fees will automatically enter you into the Axtell Youth Wrestling Tournament later in the year. Practices will last around 1 hour. Registration forms can be picked up at the office.

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY

The National Honor Society would like to thank everyone who donated to Toys for Tots. Your generosity helped create a brighter holiday for many families.

STUDENT COUNCIL

The Student Council would like to thank everyone who donated items to the canned food drive! There were over 1,100 items brought! We are so fortunate to live in such a generous community!

PRE-K NEWS

January 27 Picnic with the Principal: Kids bring a snack in a sack that starts with the letter P. While picnicking, Mr. Schwartz will read a story.

Feb. 7. Parent Teacher conferences (Open House style)

Feb. 14 Valentine Party (bring a valentine for your classmates)

Feb. 17 Field Trip to Kat's Korner 10 a.m. & 2:30 p.m.
